dc.description.summary	This Nishijin tapestry shows scenes from the Heain Court that sat in Kyoto fro 794-1195. The process of Nishijin weaving uses dyed yarns of various colours to make patterned textiles. The roots of Nishijin weaving go back around 1,200 years to the founding of Kyoto when the imperial government required luxury fabrics for court nobles. However weaving suffered a major setback with the Onin war that raged for neary 10 years from 1467. When the weavers returned to Kyoto they settled on the site where the western (nishi) army had comped (jin). From this time onward the art of Nishijin weaving flourished because of its continued willing to adopt new technology.	th
